Gray Loft Gallery was founded in 2012,  when local photographer Jan Watten seized the opportunity to create a gallery in her airy Jingletown loft.  The gallery has been referred to as a hidden gem in Jingletown, and noted by Kenneth Baker, former SF Chronicle Art Critic, in his Visual Arts Don’t Miss Column as “…A space gaining prominence in the Bay Area…”

The mission of the alternative gallery is to provide exhibition opportunities for artists in a setting that is an alternative to the traditional gallery model. We hope to inspire, engage, celebrate and acknowledge the achievements of artists at every level, integrating established artists with emerging and mid-career artists in a non-traditional art space.  We believe that Art is a vehicle for communication, community building and inspiration.  We want to encourage the appreciation and interest in the arts by presenting work in a non-exclusive, welcoming, professional and fun environment.  We hope to cultivate the belief that art is for everyone, and that art belongs in our community at large, not just in traditional gallery and museum environments.

The Gray Loft Gallery is a unique venue located on the 3rd floor of one of Oakland’s oldest artists’ work/live warehouses in the vibrant artist district Jingletown, and is a proud member of the Oakland Art Murmur and the Jingletown Arts and Business Association.

Gray Loft Gallery has received Best Art Gallery two years in a row: 2017 and 2016 in the Oakland Magazine Readers’ Choice Award!!!  We are honored and humbled to receive this amazing vote of support.
