Wynne Hayakawa: As I Lay Dreaming Of Trees

Sep 4 — Oct 3, 2019

Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition with Wynne Hayakawa.

Wynne Hayakawa’s artwork is based on glimpses of trees taken with a moving camera at slow shutter speeds. Starting with archival prints, Hayakawa adds many layers of paint, changing and simplifying the composition. Her painting is an evolving process – an interplay of color, light, pattern, and space.

Hayakawa’s newest body of work is influenced by a nostalgic trip to Mt. Tamalpais that she took last year. She recalled the sunny and quiet surroundings that were a part of her childhood, and had memories of walking among fragrant bay laurel and madrone trees. She took notice of the sun blazing through the pale young oak leaves. She is able to capture not only the light, but also the warmth and scents of these scenes.
