Sheldon Greenberg’s work has evolved over the years from realistic painting and illustration for commercial work, to a loose, richly colored painterly style with figures for galleries. Greenberg, driven by the desire to create a less obvious visual representation, evolved again finding new ways to abstract the work. By removing the figures entirely, Greenberg began to discover new interpretations of the references, the literal meanings fell away and a new kind of creativity started to challenge him. Visuals began to represent a moment in time without being specific, a combination of inquiry and contextual direction allowing the viewer to go in any direction they choose. In this way, Greenberg’s work engages people to take part in the meaning of the work itself.
