Shadow and Light: Annie Murphy-Robinson

Sep 29 — Oct 31, 2015

Reception on Thursday, October 1st from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

Working in a medium that is uniquely her own, Annie Murphy-Robinson uses sandpaper and charcoal to embed dry material into heavy paper, thus creating beautiful yet haunting images. By harnessing elements of light and shadow, she conjures complex feelings of melancholy and resolve, which are stunningly rendered in her large-scale drawings. Murphy-Robinson creates a dialogue with the past as each image’s subject is linked to her personal history. Using her daughters as models, Murphy-Robinson fashions intimate settings that are imbued with drama and shadow play, as her subjects awaken both fascination and intrigue.

Annie Murphy-Robinson is an artist living and working in Sacramento, California.

She received her B.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and her M.A. from California State University, Sacramento. Her work has been exhibited extensively and she has received numerous awards in both the United States and Europe.
