Jenkins Johnson Gallery unveils new paintings in the third solo exhibition of one of America’s leading contemporary realist still life painters, Scott Fraser, in Earthly Delights, revealing the culmination of the artist’s recent investigations into an object’s potential to exist in various states of stillness, suspension, and animation. Mixing a classical approach to painting with contemporary objects and innovative compositions, Fraser experiments with cause and effect and sleight of hand putting his own unique stamp on the subject matter. The infinite variety of shapes, colors and textures allows the artist endless compositional and narrative possibilities, reflecting his exploration of the natural world and the more obscure recesses of his imagination.
Fraser’s work was included in Two Centuries of American Still-Life Painting: The Frank and Michelle Hevrdjes Collection at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in 2017 and Truth and Vision: 21st Century Realism at the Delaware Art Museum in 2016. Jenkins Johnson placed Fraser’s work in the collection of the de Young Museum in San Francisco and his paintings hang in many other museums throughout the country, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Denver Art Museum; The Philbrook Museum of Art, Tulsa; The Arnot Art Museum, Elmira, New York; Kansas City Art Institute; and the Evansville Museum of Arts and Sciences, Indiana.
