Meyerovich Gallery spring exhibition, Katz & Kass: New Works, features bright and powerful artworks by two New York leading artists: Alex Katz and Deborah Kass.
Alex Katz (b. 1927) is an internationally acclaimed American artist and regarded as one of the most important and influential artists of his generation. Katz, who lives and works in New York City, has been the subject of more than 200 solo exhibitions since 1951. His works have been collected and exhibited extensively in the US and around the world. Alex Katz is well-known for his large-scale portraits and landscapes, both of which are represented in the exhibition at Meyerovich Gallery. These new, captivating and colorful artworks featured at Meyerovich Gallery include large floral “White Impatiens” (70 x 56 in) and radiating reds in the woodcut “Red Hat Ada” (60 x 43 in). By enveloping the viewer in nature with bold vibrant colors these works truly define Katz’s style. The exhibition also includes among others Katz’s newest work, an unforgettable and seductively elegant black and white image title “Ariel” (36 x 75 in.).
Deborah Kass (b. 1952) is an multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the intersection of politics, popular culture, art history, and personal identity within a Pop art style. “The Deb Suite” was inspired by Warhol’s famous celebrity silkscreen of Liz Taylor. “The Deb Suite” features 4 bold and striking faces of the artist herself, in red, blue, silver and yellow. In 2014 Kass was inducted into the New York Foundation for the Arts’ Hall of Fame. She is a member of the Board of the Andy Warhol Foundation and is a Senior Critic in Yale University MFA Painting Program. Deborah Kass’ work is in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Jewish Museum, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York City; The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; The New Orleans Museum of Art, and the National Portrait Gallery, Washington, DC among others. Recent and current solo exhibitions include: “Deborah Kass: No Kidding” Paul Kasmin Gallery, New York, NY; “OY/YO,” Brooklyn Bridge Park, Brooklyn, NY and “Deborah Kass: America’s Most Wanted” Sargent’s Daughters, New York, NY.
