Elaine Coombs | Sky Bloom

Feb 7 — Mar 14, 2024

Opening Reception: Wednesday, February 7th, 5:30 – 7:30pm

Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition by Elaine Coombs.

“At my best, I am an unapologetically optimistic individual that hopes to inspire through a halcyon lens of uplifting imagery.” – Elaine Coombs

Elaine Coombs finds nature is a place she can visit to center herself and find inspiration. Having previously depicted lush, green, landscapes in her work, she shifted her view upwards in 2020 and began painting idyllic interpretations of the sky. Using metallic backgrounds of silvery pearl, gold, and blue, she meticulously applies the patterns of clouds at golden hour to the canvas.

For this body of work, Coombs was deeply moved by the first chapter of A New Earth where author, Eckhart Tolle, describes the blooming of a flower as the enlightenment of plants. She found herself pondering this concept leading up to her exhibition and has since come to think of sunsets and sunrises as the blooming of the sky.
