Suhas Bhujbal: Synthesis

Jun 1 — Jun 25, 2020

Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce their 4th solo show with Suhas Bhujbal.
“I capture the characters of people I see every day. I create expressive, rapid sketches of the people that I have encountered, developing these drawings into the final works of art.” – Suhas Bhujbal
Greatly inspired by his vast travels and his upbringing in India, Suhas Bhujbal’s compositions are full of overlapping forms and vivid colors reflecting the landscapes and communities he has experienced. In his work, he emphasizes crowded areas, and large assemblages of people within bustling urban environments. Bhujbal’s Utilization of architecture and the people he observes reveals specific moods and narratives in each of his paintings.
Bhujbal enjoys the challenge of portraying various angles of the human form, as well as various ethnicities and body types. The figures in his work show the quick movements of bustling spaces while also displaying a great amount of character, heightened by his use of color. From the designs and patterns of the clothing, to the colors of the umbrellas in his beach paintings, Bhujbal focuses on creating vivid scenes. By applying both saturated tones and translucent hues, he is able to emphasize the relationship between intensity and subtlety found in his work. this link between subject and color in his paintings provides a glimpse into the different landscapes and communities that inspire him to create harmonious compositions out of chaos.
