Out of Town Group Show

Feb 6 — Mar 7, 2019

Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce a group show featuring artists from outside of the Bay Area.

Adriana Dorta was born in Venezuela and is currently based in Florida. Her art is inspired by stained glass and geometric abstract art. Adriana creates wall sculptures made of MDF, with wax, resin, and acrylic paint.

Ned Evans is a painter living in Venice, California. His paintings push and pull the limitations of color infused fractures, dissection, and re-assemblage. They are abstracted within a controlled chaos.

Lisa Schulte is based in Los Angeles and is known as the “Neon Queen”. Present in her work is her fierce appreciation of the nuanced interactions between light and dark. In addition to her art practice, Lisa founded Nights of Neon, which is a full service neon manufacturing facility, building custom neon artwork for the film and television industry.

Kim Squaglia is a mixed media artist who lives in Sacramento. She approaches painting as if she is making a sculpture out of flat shapes – her process creates depth, shadow, and even the illusion of movement. The layers of resin, oil, and acrylic create a jewel-like surface that has either a matte or gloss finish.

Francisco Valverde is from Cuernavaca, Mexico. He typically works on large panels, eschewing traditional paints and brushes in favor of bottle dispensers filled with colorful synthetic materials. He creates stories in his paintings by utilizing plastic materials, suggestive backgrounds, mysterious forms, and varying depths.

Sarah Williams is from Missouri, and her artwork is heavily influenced by her roots in the rural American Midwest. Aesthetically, Williams is interested in light sources, which led her to paint nightscapes of familiar yet isolated and unremarkable buildings. It is part of Williams’ artistic intention for the viewer to draw upon the character and identity of their own regional home when viewing her work.
