Laura Buss ‘Liminal’

Nov 3 — Dec 1, 2017

Opening Reception: Friday November 3, 2017, 6 pm9 pm

Exhibition Dates: November 3December 1, 2017

We are excited to present the second major solo exhibition by San Francisco artist, Laura Buss. Following 2011’s acclaimed Bundles, the artist returns nearly 6 years later with a new series of works. In Liminal, the artist explains, “It describes the state in which we so often find ourselves, seeking clarity and filled with longing.  Moving between spaces that are known to us and into encrypted planes beyond. Standing at the threshold and looking back at footsteps behind us.  Sometimes finding brief moments of perspective where both planes can be seen, before and behind, but more often losing sight of one while moving into the other. The in-between spaces curtained with shrouds dictating what can be seen.  And we, ever gardeners, moving ahead and planting seeds as we go.”

Laura Buss began studying art at the  School of Visual Arts in New York, with a focus in photography. But the world beckoned so she traveled and worked as a painter of signs and portraits. Her love of art took her into varied directions, including an ongoing, 20-year career in tattooing at  Authentic Tattoo, as well as oil painting with a heavy focus on figurative work. She is based in San Francisco.

In conjunction with North Beach First Fridays, Modern Eden Gallery will open it’s doors on the evening of November 3, 2017 from 6 PM9 PM  to host an artist’s reception and artwork debut. Laura Buss will be in attendance and complimentary drinks will be served.

The exhibition will be on display through December 1, 2017 and is free and open to the public.

Founded in June 2010 by local artists Bradley Platz and Kim Larson, the gallery features monthly exhibitions of established and emerging artists. The gallery’s contemporary aesthetic ranges from realism to surrealism with a strong focus on illustrative painting and representational sculpture.
