Opening Reception for San Francisco Artist Award Exhibition: May Wilson

Sep 9 —

Join us at the artist reception for sculptor May Wilson, winner of SFADA’s 2017 San Francisco Artist Award.

May Wilson: Skeptics and Nomads

Exhibition:  September 9-30, 2017, at Minnesota Street Project grand atrium, 1275 Minnesota Street, San Francisco

Hours:  Tuesday-Saturday, 11AM-5PM

Bay Area sculptor May Wilson, winner of the 2017 San Francisco Artist Award, works with carbon fiber, felt, cement and other industrial materials to create unique, often playful sculptures.  All three of the jurors for the award — Hesse McGraw (SFAI), Ala Abtekar (Stanford professor & artist represented by Anglim Gilbert Gallery) and gallerist Rena Bransten — were highly enthused about her work.  In their deliberations, they described it as “inventive”, “quirky” and “infectious.”  More information is here.

The biennial San Francisco Artist Award was founded by SFADA member Gallery Wendi Norris in 2011 and gifted to the SF Art Dealers Association in 2017.  The purpose of the award is to support San Francisco Bay Area artists and provide greater opportunities for artists to have viable careers while living in the Bay Area.  This year’s exhibition is being organized via a collaboration among SFADA board members Mark Pinsukanjana/Themes & Projects, George Lawson, Joan McLoughlin, Mark Wolfe, Chandra Cerrito and Ken Harman/Hashimoto Contemporary, all of whom are contributing their time and expertise to ensure the success of the exhibition.

SFADA Thanks San Francisco Travel for their generous support of the 2017 San Francisco Artist Award.
