San Francisco, CA- Caldwell Snyder Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of recent paintings by Sharon Booma. Caught between physicality and delicacy, Sharon Booma’s new body of paintings reflects the inherent mysteries of the human spirit. Compact furies of saturated colors emblaze the surface of these jewel-like paintings, creating energetic capsules of memory and experience. Abstract and complex as they are, Booma’s inspiration is firmly rooted in emotion and memory.
For Booma, this latest collection is a chronicle of her relationship with painting. In her words, they “contain all the cycles of doubt and certainty”. Guided predominantly by her intuition, it is within the process of applying paint to a surface that Booma feels most empowered. She creates balance on her canvas by meticulously applying seemingly disharmonious elements: broad color fields, textured surfaces, mixed media and layered paint. Each piece is an attempt to grasp at the undefined. At their most poignant moment, they serve to remind us of our own personal histories, and the unique paths we create.
Educated at The College of New Rochelle, New York, and The University of Connecticut School of Fine Arts, Sharon Booma has been exhibiting her work since 1986. Her complex abstract paintings have been awarded top prizes in juried exhibits and have been seen in invitationals nationwide.
