Corden|Potts welcomes guest curator, Kate Contakos, for our next two shows. Kate is curator and founder of Atelier Contakos. For her first exhibit at 49 Geary she will be showing two projects by Roberto Fernández Ibáñez: Afterfracking and Melting Point.
The exhibit opens on First Thursday, February 1, and runs through March 10. There will be an artist’s reception from 5:30 to 7:30 pm on March 1, which Roberto, who is based in Uruguay, will attend. We hope you’ll be able to join us and welcome Roberto to San Francisco.
Roberto, who is trained as a chemist and a self-taught photographer, makes images characterized by experimentation with chemistry and light — a return to the foundational elements of photographic technique. Exploring the frontier between the real and the imaginary, his work reflects his interests in the environment, human behavior and symbolism.
Roberto’s work has been exhibited in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Colombia, France, The Netherlands, Spain, The United States and Uruguay. He was awarded the Morosoli 2012 Award in Arts, Uruguay, in recognition of his artistic trajectory and his contribution to Uruguayan culture. His work is held in collections around the world.
Kate Contakos exhibits images done by living artists working in historical and alternative photographic processes, engraved prints and artists’ books. For fifteen years she has worked to preserve cultural heritage materials and serves on the board of directors of the CODEX Foundation in Berkeley, CA. She has curated exhibitions in London, New York and San Francisco.
We look forward to seeing you on February 1st for the First Thursday reception or during regular business hours. And don’t forget the March 1 artist’s reception for Roberto.
